Honorable Mention: Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith

Family on Rock N Roller Coaster

Height Requirement: 48 inches
Ride Time: 1 minute, 22 seconds

Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster was hands down my favorite ride at Hollywood Studios. It’s fast, intense, and starts with one of the best launches in all of Disney World.

You go from 0 to 60 almost instantly and then spend the rest of the ride flying through the dark with loud music and inversions. This ride is being re-imagined and will be themed to the Muppets. I am going to leave a space for this ride because I am pretty sure it is going to be amazing when it opens.

Rider Switch & Single Rider

Rider Switch is available and super easy to use if you have kids under 48 inches. Even better, older kids can ride twice in a row.
There’s also a single rider line, which can save a ton of time. We will see if this is true when it opens as the Muppet Ride.

7. Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run

Height Requirement: 38 inches
Ride Time: 4 minutes, 30 seconds

This interactive ride lets you pilot the Millennium Falcon. Everyone on board has a role, whether you’re a pilot, gunner, or engineer.

Pilots definitely have the most fun, so try to sit in the front if it’s your first time.

Single Rider Option

The single rider line here is fantastic and often moves quickly. Even when using it, you may still ride with someone you know if the crew needs to fill seats. They have recently changed the single rider lane to the double rider lane so two people can go at the same time.

6. Star Tours: The Adventures Continue

Height Requirement: 40 inches
Ride Time: 5 minutes

Star Tours is a longtime favorite and still one of the best 3D rides at Hollywood Studios. We seriously go on this ride at least 5 times when we visit Disney World.

What makes it special? There are over 50 different ride combinations, so no two rides are exactly the same. You can ride again and again and still see something new.

If you’re prone to motion sickness, this one may feel a little intense.

The Queue

The queue feels like an intergalactic spaceport, complete with droids, luggage, and Star Wars details everywhere you look.

5. Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway

Height Requirement: Any height
Ride Time: 7 minutes

This newer attraction is bright, cheerful, and perfect for all ages. The animation style feels like stepping directly into a modern Mickey Mouse cartoon.

Is It Worth It?

Absolutely. It’s fun, creative, and lighthearted. While it may not be an “over and over again” ride for adults, families with younger kids may want to ride multiple times.

The Queue

The line leads into a short Mickey cartoon, which is a fun way to set the tone before boarding.

4. Slinky Dog Dash

Slinky Dog Dash

Height Requirement: 38 inches
Ride Time: 2 minutes

Slinky Dog Dash is a smooth, family-friendly coaster and one of the best starter coasters for kids.

The Queue

This ride is extremely popular, and wait times are long—even right at park opening. Lightening Lane is highly recommended if this ride is important to you. You can book this 7 days before you arrive at the park.

3. Toy Story Mania

Height Requirement: Any height
Ride Time: 8 minutes

Toy Story Mania is a competitive 3D shooting game and a huge hit with families. It’s colorful, fast-paced, and surprisingly addictive.

The Queue

The queue is incredibly well themed. Lightening Lane is a great option if you want to save time.

2. The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror

Height Requirement: 40 inches
Ride Time: 4 minutes

Tower of Terror is a Disney classic and one of the most iconic rides in the park. It’s a drop ride with a spooky Twilight Zone storyline that adds just the right amount of suspense.

Is It Too Scary for Kids?

Height doesn’t always equal readiness. We took a brave 5-year-old on this ride—and afterward, he informed us that he had officially “lost his brave.”
If your child is sensitive to darkness or sudden drops, you may want to skip this one.

The Queue

Wait times can get long, especially midday. Lightening Lane is absolutely worth using here. Once inside the building, the line usually moves faster, and sometimes Disney even sends characters out to entertain guests waiting outside.

1. Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance

Height Requirement: 40 inches
Ride Time: About 18 minutes

Rise of the Resistance isn’t just a ride, it’s a full-blown experience. From the moment you enter, you’re part of a Resistance mission, and things escalate quickly.

You’ll walk through multiple scenes, board different ride vehicles, and encounter the First Order along the way. The finale is especially impressive.

Is It Okay for Kids?

Yes—with a little preparation. Kylo Ren can be intimidating, but explaining ahead of time that the “good guys win” helps. Our 5-year-old loved it.

Using Lightening Lane at Hollywood Studios

Having a strategy at Hollywood Studios makes a huge difference.

What Is Lightening Lane?

Lihtening Lane is a paid service in the My Disney Experience app that allows you to book Lightning Lane return times for select attractions.

Best Rides to Book with Lightening Lane

  • Tower of Terror
  • Slinky Dog Dash
  • Toy Story Mania
  • Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway

Rise of the Resistance is not included with Lightening Lane. You can purchase an individual Lightning Lane, but it’s usually only worth it if you’re short on time.

My Hollywood Studios Plan of Attack

Toy Story Land
  1. Purchase Lightening Lane before your trip.
  2. Book your 3 Lightning Lane rides 7 days before your trip.
  3. Head straight to Rise of the Resistance or Slinky Dog Dash if that is more your style right at park opening.
  4. While waiting, book your next select Lightening Lane passes. You can book another ride once you use your first pass.

Rise of the Resistance is nearly 20 minutes long, so factor that into your schedule when booking additional rides.
