Best Rides at DisneySea Tips
Before we jump into the top rides, let’s go over a few helpful tips to make planning your Tokyo DisneySea trip a little easier. As you map out your visit, take some time to compare ticket types, Disney Premier Access options, and overall costs so you can choose what fits your plans best.
How Many Days Do You Need at Tokyo DisneySea?
If your goal is to fully experience everything Tokyo DisneySea has to offer—including the major headliners, shows, and the new Fantasy Springs area—you’ll want to dedicate a full day to this park alone.
DisneySea is incredibly detailed, and its attractions are spread across multiple themed “ports,” so having enough time to explore makes a huge difference.
Because Tokyo Disneyland is right next door and equally packed with must-do rides, many visitors find that a two- or three-day ticket (covering both parks) is ideal. Trying to cover both parks in one day almost always means you’ll miss some of the top experiences.
Is a Park-Hopper Ticket Worth It?
Tokyo Disney Resort offers something similar to park-hopping, but with time-based restrictions depending on the ticket type.
If you want the flexibility to visit both parks in the same day, especially if you’re staying only a short time, a park-hopper style ticket can be worth it.
However, if it’s your first visit or you plan to do a deep dive into DisneySea, a one-park-per-day ticket is usually the better choice. The park is huge, and there’s more than enough to fill an entire day without hopping.
Our Experience
On our trip to Japan we had a lot on the itinerary. We are big disney fans but knew that we wouldn’t be able to do more than one day with all the plans we had made.
We opted to just go to DisneySea and not Disneyland. We did this because many of the rides at DisneySea are unique to DisneySea meaning they are not located at any of the Disney Parks around the World.
We went in August which was hot and very crowded. I think looking back I wish we would have done two days or even a day and a half.
Should You Add Disney Premier Access?
Disney Premier Access is DisneySea’s paid skip-the-line system for select attractions (like Soarin’, Toy Story Mania!, and certain Fantasy Springs rides). It can save a ton of time, especially for the most popular rides.
If you plan to use Premier Access, it’s best to purchase it early through the official Tokyo Disney Resort app, as it can sell out on busy days. Checking a crowd calendar before your trip can also help you decide whether the extra cost is worth it.
The day we went we thought we would use the disability pass and be okay but I think the Premier Access would have made our experience much better as the lines were very long.
When Is Premier Access a Good Idea?
Premier Access is especially helpful if you only have one day to explore DisneySea and want to guarantee spots on the top attractions. It’s also highly recommended during holiday periods, Golden Week, weekends, and any time Fantasy Springs crowds surge.
Rider Switch
Traveling with younger kids who don’t meet the height requirements for rides like Journey to the Center of the Earth, Indiana Jones Adventure, or Raging Spirits?
Use Disney’s Rider Switch program. Your group waits together, one adult rides while the other stays with the child, then you swap without waiting in line twice. Older kids often get the bonus of riding both times!
Pro Tip for Tokyo DisneySea
One of the nicest things about DisneySea is how many attractions and play areas are designed with families in mind, especially inside Mermaid Lagoon, where nearly everything is kid-friendly and indoors. Even if you’re traveling with little ones, you’ll still find plenty of attractions everyone can enjoy together.
1. Journey to the Center of the Earth
The Ride
This is one of the best rides at Tokyo Disney Sea. It is a DisneySea exclusive ride, meaning that no other Disney park has anything like it.
It is a high-speed thrill dark ride. I was so excited to ride this ride. It was the last ride for me of the night. I waited around 45 minutes. During the busy season, the line did not improve closer to closing.
I would say this ride is worth the hype. It is fun!
2. Peter Pan’s Neverland Adventure
The Ride
Peter Pan at Disney Sea is the best Peter Pan ride at any of the Disney Parks. I loved it! It has digital technology and new trackless ride tech. It was amazing! I highly recommend going on this ride!
The cool thing about it was that the line wasn’t that long. We went at a very busy time of year. In any US park Peter Pan is always busy. It really surprised me that we didn’t have to wait too long.
3. Indiana Jones Adventure: Temple of the Crystal Skull
The Ride
This ride is cool! I love Indiana Jones and the Adventure theme. This ride takes place in a jeep. There is fire, water, and lightning effects! It is a fun story!
The best part is that it has a single rider line! You can go on it over and over again without having to wait too long!
4. Raging Spirits
The Ride
If you love roller coasters, this is the ride for you. It is a classic coaster with fast turns, drops, and even a upside-down loop. I went on this ride a few times and loved it!
This is another ride that has a single rider line!
5. Rapunzel’s Lantern Festival
The Ride
Disney Sea is the only Disney park that has a Tangled Ride. It is a cute boat ride similar to the Frozen ride. You will get to experience the Lantern Festival along a seamless track. The technology on this ride is fantastic.
It is a must ride at DisneySea!
6. Anna and Elsa’s Frozen Journey
The Ride
I really wanted to go on the Frozen ride. At DisneySea, it is different than in the USA. I enjoyed it, but honestly, it was pretty close to what I had already been on. It is a fun boat ride with excellent music!
This line was packed before the park even opened because those staying at the resort located right next to this ride could come in early and jump in line. This ride is not a good rope drop ride because of this!
7. 20000 Leagues Under the Sea
The Ride
20000 Leagues Under the Sea is a submarine-style ride. The Disneyland California ride Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage is similar. This ride has its own unique version. It has a fun theme that you will only find in Tokyo.
Unfortunately for me, the day I went this ride was closed. I was kind of bummed because I really wanted to ride it. It makes my list because it is so unique.
8. Tower of Terror
The Ride
I love Tower of Terror! I didn’t get to ride it on our trip. I was racing trying to make it before the park closed but didn’t make it!
This ride does not follow the Twilight Zone theme. It has its own theme. I love Tower of Terror so it totally makes the list!
9. Toy Story
The Ride
Toy Story is such a classic ride. This is my husband’s favorite ride. If you have a competitive nature this will need to be on your list!
This ride is a shooting game where you compete to see who scores the highest points. It is fun for the whole family.
10. Soaring Fantastic Flight
The Ride
Soarin is such a classic good ride. It is a flight simulator that takes you on a journey around the world.
At DisneySea there are unique landscapes compared to the Soarin ride at Disney World because of this, it makes it a must ride at DisneySea.
11. Aquatopia
The Ride
I think this ride is perfect for the summer. It is a watercraft boat that 3 people can ride at one time. It looks like you are floating on water but apparently wheels roll under in shallow water! You do not drive it but the watercraft goes on a trackless system. Water sprays everywhere so it is great for hot days.
